Mopars At The Strip
Sunshine, wheel stands, burnouts, cruising, used parts, new horsepower adders, celebrities, bright colors, awesome hot rods, a car show, Quarter Mile of Mopars, muscle cars and two rock bands. There was laughing, cheering, crying, Hemi’s red-lining, torque converters launching, tires screaming, good old fashion Rock ‘n Roll and even a wedding! With events like Drag Racing, Car Show, Swap Meet, Manufacturers Midway, Auction, MoPower Cruise from Salt Lake City to Las Vegas, Pony Car Wars and Cannery Concerts, there was so much to do and see!
The opening ceremony featured a couple amazing tributes to a group of innovators in the Mopar drag racing scene, The Golden Commandos, and a couple of Motor Heads who lost their lives way too soon.Nevada Heat Racing
We had a chance to talk to Captain Gary Davis of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department and learn a little bit more about their “Beat the Heat” racing program. This program is a self funded volunteer program that Policemen and Fire Fighters from around the globe participate in. It is a 501c3 registered Non-Profit Organization. These volunteers have spent a lot of time and a lot of their own money developing this program and building their own individual race cars. They use these cars to travel around to different schools, hospitals and race tracks promoting safe driving, getting kids off the street and giving them a bright and successful future. One of their big programs they are involved in at the moment is helping fund and gather donations for a new multi-acred Veteran’s Memorial in Las Vegas. This memorial will be remembering those who served from the Revolutionary War to the Wars we are fighting today. To learn more about this program go to www.lasvegasveteransmemorial.org
