Troy Flanigan Takes Nationals
In Gallup, NM at the JR high Rodeo National finals. The light Rifle competition there were over 100 boys and girls from 6th to 8th grade that competed for the National title. They shoot at 50 yards, shooting 12 shots per. target in standing kneeling and prone positions. With the combined scores for ranking. They had practice day on Mon, where the wind blew 25 mph and gusting sand through out the air. Troy Flanigan had a great time meeting new people from all over the United States, Canada and Australia. He competed on Tuesday afternoon and when it was all said and done he took 4th in the nation. The top six had a difference of 7 points. They had to brake the ties with bulls-eyes where Troy hit 7 of them to help his score. Troy started competing in the spring and shot well enough to qualify to Nationals for his first time. The other competitors have been there in the years past. He won a $500.00 scholarship for college. Wednesday he again competed with his dad in a family fun shoot. Troyshot first and put all of his shots in the bulls eye, then it was Curt’s turn to shoot, they took 3rd place. For their efforts they both got matching belt buckles for their prizes. Great Job Troy we are so proud of all the hard work that you have done to make it as far as you did! The Utah team did great. Can’t wait till next Rodeo season. Congratulations to all the kids that worked so hard to make it to Nationals, they all did great.
