UDOT Provides Passage Under I-15
Connection between Red Cliffs Drive and Red Hills Parkway to open Thursday.
Saint George, Utah – A project to construct additional lanes on Interstate 15 between exits 8 and 10 with an associated underpass connecting local streets is nearing completion.
Major construction work on I-15 travel lanes was completed in December, 2016 but weather-sensitive work continued under the interstate through January. On Thursday morning, February 2, the underpass next to Red Cliffs Mall will officially open to the public. Traffic will be allowed to flow freely through the underpass once the traffic signals are operating and barricades are removed.
Users are urged to use caution as drivers and pedestrians become familiar with the new traffic patterns and as signals undergo further coordination under the changing traffic volumes.
Over the next few weeks, construction crews will continue miscellaneous tasks such as landscaping, aesthetics, and painting. The public can expect occasional lane restrictions and night work as these tasks are completed.
This partnered project between the Utah Department of Transportation and the City of St. George includes:
Adding an additional lane in each direction on I-15 from the St. George Boulevard Interchange (Exit 8) to the Green Springs Interchange (Exit 10) to alleviate congestion.
Providing a new underpass under the freeway in front of Red Cliffs Mall that connects Red Cliffs Drive and Red Hills Parkway.
Installing new traffic signals on Red Cliffs Drive and Red Hills Parkway at the underpass location.
