Friday night lights in Enterprise has become even more popular as the Wolves have had their best season hitting 7-1 after edging past South Sevier.
Enterprise has been rolling over their competition all season besides their one loss against San Juan that the Wolves beat themselves in that game.
Enterprise fell behind early second half to a tough South Sevier team that looked to be solid in the first quarter keeping Enterprise scoreless. By the end of the second half, South Sevier was up 21-6 and Enterprise needed help on both sides of the ball.
Enterprise received a much needed halftime to talk out their first half troubles. Coach Messersmith said, “I felt we had a good first quarter and we still had a lot of fight left in us, we just needed to get refocused.”
Enterprise opened up the second half and on the first play they fumbled the ball and South Sevier recovered. Jayson Holt the Quarterback for Enterprise said after the game about the play, “We struggled in the first half and when we came out in the second half and lost the ball that killed our momentum. I was fired up on the sideline and in the game and I kept trying to get our team back in this.” I asked when they knew they could come back and win the game and Holt said, “we never doubted we could win, we just needed to get our momentum back.”
That is exactly what Enterprise did. Down 27-12 at the end of the 3rd and Enterprise scored 16 unanswered points to rally back with a close win. The Wolves scored on a 4th and goal as Jayson Holt ran in the tieing run and said, “We were denied three times and I was not going to let them stop us again.” The Wolves had major pressure with the game winning extra point placed on Sophomore kicker Omar Morales who nailed the point and has been solid all year.
South Sevier had just over a minute left to work with their offense and John Oswald reached out and took that away as he intercepted the ball and the game was over.
It was an emotional time for Coach Messersmith as this win at home meant something to him. He embraced quarterback Jayson Holt and couldn’t hold back his emotions. The Wolves remained undefeated at home and set themselves up for a strong post-season with this win.
The final challenge for the Wolves will be against Beaver on October 14th at Beaver, Utah. Beaver is also 7-1 and second place in Region 13. Their only loss came to San Juan by 3 points. Beaver has dominated their opponents and looking to take their game all the way to state.
Coach Messersmith said after the game, “It was an emotional win and this game meant a lot to us.”
